Description

Do you want the chance to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of mothers and children? New Generation, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, is looking for a reliable and self-motivated individual to our team as a part-time Family Services Specialist. This position will work 22.5 hours/week over (3) days. The Family Services Specialist is responsible for providing one-on-one and group support to New Generation’s families in order to help them achieve their goals as outlined in their action plans. This position also serves as a role model in establishing a sense of community for the residents.

 

Many pregnant and single mothers experience homelessness due to domestic violence, financial hardship, mental health issues and substance use, among other challenges. New Generation provides comprehensive support – including a family-oriented shelter, transitional housing and stabilization program – to empower mothers with the skills, confidence and resources to build self-sufficient lives for their families. 

 

Responsibilities:

Shelter Programs

· Collect all required documents from new residents, makes copies and transfer to the Family Services Manager.

· Establish a service plan and follow up with each family on a weekly basis.

· Provide support and encouragement to residents on their physical, emotional, social and interpersonal development.

· Ensure guidelines are followed daily and report any non-compliance of program rules/policies to the Family Services Manager.

· Complete paperwork requirements, including staff notes, regarding each resident when on duty.

· Manage waitlist and ensure clients are ready for admission. Assist with building tours for potential residents.

· Provide transportation for residents as needed and maintain daily mileage tracking, resident use, etc.

· Assist with the general upkeep of the shelter including room checks and room turn over when families move out.

 

Stabilization Program

· Assist former residents, for up to 12 months, after they exit emergency or transitional housing. This may include transportation (case by case), advocacy, referrals, and one-on-one assistance with paperwork and other tasks clients need help with in order to maintain permanent housing and other benefits.

· Provide overall assessment of client’s household and work with the New Generation team to address any issues the household is experiencing. 

· Develop a list of relevant community resources and make referrals as needed.

 

Job Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Psychology or other related field; or High School diploma/GED plus 2 years’ experience in Social Services

· Demonstrated knowledge of social services practices and resources.

· Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel 25-30% of the time

· CPR/First Aid Certification (must receive certification within 90 days of employment)

· Ability to transport residents in personal vehicle
