Advocacy Call to Action: Protect Charitable Gaming Revenues
March 20, 2025

Amendment to HB2 would slash critical funding to NH Nonprofits
Right now, many charities in New Hampshire rely on money from charitable gaming. Governor Ayotte proposed that 15% of slot machine revenue should go to nonprofits, which would increase their funding as gaming expands.
However, a new amendment to HB2, introduced by Rep. Joe Sweeney, proposes cutting that percentage down to just 7.5%—which is not only half of what the Governor proposed but also 15% less than what nonprofits currently receive from historic horse racing machines.
This funding cut could cost millions of dollars, severely impacting nearly 800 nonprofits that depend on this money to provide essential services.
Why This Matters:
- Nonprofits rely on charitable gaming revenue to support communities across New Hampshire. In 2024 alone, it brought in over $39 million for charities.
- This amendment sets a dangerous precedent by reducing nonprofit funding to balance the state budget.
- Lowering the share to 7.5% would drastically cut resources for charities, hurting the people they serve.
