About the Organization
Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

About the Job
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Family Advocate provides supportive services to families by forming partnerships with families and linking them with community resources that will help them attain family goals. The Family Advocate is responsible for assisting families in completing enrollment applications for their child, conducting home visits, monitoring classroom absences, reporting, monitoring, and providing social service and parent involvement opportunities to Head Start families and ensuring compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards under the direction of the Family Engagement Manager.
Advocates attend and assist with parent committee meetings within their assigned caseload, encourage family participation within the Head Start program, plan, and implement community awareness activities and meetings with referral agencies.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate degree in Social Services or related field with two (2) years’ experience in casework delivery to families with young children.
- Intermediate computer literacy including database management and Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with preschool age children and their families.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by families living in poverty.
