Granite United Way (GUW) has a long history of bringing communities together to address social determinants of health. The Director of Strategic Marketing will lead the development, execution, and evaluation of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that advances the mission and strategic priorities of the Impact Team at Granite United Way. They will develop and implement marketing and communications strategies across a variety of channels, enhance digital communications, and oversee various websites, media relations, social media, editorial content, visual identity, and internal and external communications. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, innovative, and possesses a high attention to detail and accuracy. 

The Director of Strategic Marketing will support and advance the work of the pillars of GUW’s Impact Team (Early Childhood, Housing, Public Health & Prevention/SUD, Financial Empowerment, and Navigation/211) and will serve as a critical connection to disseminate information. This role requires strong communication and marketing skills with the ability to adjust messaging to the target audience which may include the general public, agency partners, community and business leaders, elected and state officials, and others. The role will require knowledge of programs, partners, and systems and the ability to create efficient communication pathways to keep all team members informed of developments and opportunities. The Director of Strategic Marketing must be able to think strategically and assess, change, and create content for internal and external communications, including the Impact Team’s digital presence. This position requires an understanding of public health approaches and the technical skills to implement marketing and communication plans across GUW’s Impact footprint. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively to create program descriptions, impact reports, position statements, and other documentation.

Work schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours, Monday through Friday with home office located in Concord. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, with the possibility of some early morning, evening, and weekend work. Must have reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the state of New Hampshire as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBITIES:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications plan to expand the knowledge and impact of GUW initiatives
  • Create, review, and tailor public health messages and materials for targeted audiences, including applying best practices to reach people with different levels of health literacy, digital literacy, and science literacy
  • A knowledge of health communications, social marketing, health literacy, design, and public relations principles, practices, and techniques
  • Manage multiple initiative websites focusing on visual presentation and content; create schedule and process for updates to improve relevancy
  • Assess and develop plan to improve GUW’s digital presence, focusing on strategic alignment across Impact areas of focus
  • Build a library of templates and resources for all initiatives to enhance message consistency
  • Assess and create collateral material aligned with proven public health and prevention messaging
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including: staff, partners, community members, state and local officials, and business leaders
  • Work collaboratively with GUW colleagues in donor and volunteer engagement to bring awareness and resources to Impact initiatives
  • Provide internal training and coaching as appropriate
  • Create internal systems and processes within team to improve communication, alignment with the strategic plan, and efficiencies
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills that is effective with a broad diversity of audiences
     
  • Creative problem solver that can respond to opportunities and emerging needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and administrative skills with the ability to meet deadlines with rigorous attention to detail.
  • Adept at seeing bigger picture and connecting people to achieve greater success.
  • Strong planning skills and the ability to think strategically.
  • Willingness to become versed in current research and best practices/models.
  • Ability to represent GUW at social, civic and business events, some of which are outside general business hours.

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The venue of this position is a general office environment that is clean, well-lighted, environmentally comfortable, free of fumes or airborne particles, and only minimally exposes employees to office solvents limited to those relative to copier equipment. 

  • Minimal requirement to reach at or above shoulder level; occasional reaching below shoulder level required 
  • Hand manipulation - equipment and controls, frequent; grasping and handling, occasional 
  • Ability to travel throughout the territory required 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include night and weekends 
  • Ability to tolerate prolonged sitting and/or standing and to lift approximately 50 pounds to waist high level whenever necessary. 
  • Mobility includes regular sitting, some standing and walking.
