Description

Position: Director of Community Life

Status: Full-time Exempt (Salaried)

Pay: $70,000 - $80,000 per year

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM

Location: 600 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Overview 

The Director of Community Life (DCL) is a crucial leader in creating a safe and compassionate community for our residents. A member of our Leadership Team, the DCL is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our residential program which serves 100-120 nightly.  With the Shift Managers and Direct Service staff members, the DCL develops and implements policies and procedures for safe and positive communal living. Collaboration across departments and with community partners is key to elevating the solutions and programs we develop. 

Responsibilities:

  • Set policies and procedures and ensure they are consistently followed.
  • Collaborate with Direct Service Staff and other on-site departments to build a positive communal living environment.
  • Hold regular meetings with resident groups to foster communication and cooperation.
  • Respond to resident grievances and concerns, connect with residents with recurring disciplinary issues, and hear appeals for re-admission from former residents.
  • Support the professional development of Direct Service staff, including regular staff meetings, frequent feedback, annual performance reviews, and other professional opportunities.
  • Maintain adequate shift coverage with the assistance of Shift Managers.
  • Work closely with the Facilities Manager to address custodial and facility issues.
  • Collaborate with the Kitchen Coordinator to provide food security for our residents. 

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Evidence of policy creation and application experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • A criminal background check will be conducted
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Current driver’s license and vehicle insurance

Preferred Experience:

  • Understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and families experiencing homelessness
  • Experience building community among diverse individuals and families

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Able to lift 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand and move for long periods of time
