About the Presenter
Terry M. Knowles
Terry Knowles held the position of Assistant Director of Charitable Trusts at the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office for 38 years. She was elected President of the National Association of State Charity Officials in 1991 and 2006 and served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Nonprofits in Washington D.C. for six years. She was a Nonprofit Specialist to the Governor’s Office from 2021-2023, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits, the Piscataquog Land Conservancy, and the New Hampshire Historical Society where she serves as Secretary.
During her career Terry participated in the Harvard University/Hauser Center’s Joint Seminar on Emerging Issues in Philanthropy and presented workshops at Columbia Law School, Boston College Law School, and the ARNOVA Symposium on Public Policy. Her published articles include The New Community Benefits Law, and The Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act published in the New Hampshire Bar Journal, Emerging Nonprofit and Foundation Enforcement Issues published in The Nonprofit Quarterly, and Amending or Terminating Conservation Easements: The New Hampshire Experience published in the Utah Environmental Law Review. Terry was the 2019 recipient of the NH Preservation Alliance’s Preservation Achievement Award. She owns and operates Knowles Consulting LLC.
