Nonprofit Advocacy Helps Defeat Threatening Bills at Crossover
April 22, 2025
Thanks to persistent advocacy from nonprofit organizations across the state, several bills that could have negatively impacted charitable funding have been successfully defeated at the crossover point of the legislative session.
The following bills failed to advance:
- HB 531: Proposed annual limits on how much charitable gaming revenue a single nonprofit could receive.
- HB 588: Would have altered how revenues from historic horse racing pools are distributed.
- HB 625: Sought to allow municipalities to impose payments on nonprofits based on a percentage of their assessed property values.
These wins reflect the sector’s growing influence at the State House. Advocates are encouraged to continue engaging with legislators to protect and strengthen the nonprofit landscape.
