2024 Nonprofit Wages & Benefits Report released by the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits

wages and benefits report coverNonprofit wages saw a ten percent increase over the last two years. This is among the findings of the 2024 Report on Nonprofit Wages & Benefits in Northern New England – NH Edition, released by the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits earlier this week. The average benchmarked hourly wage across 27 job categories is $31.46 and the average annual salary for NH’s executive directors is $109,372, which represents a 7.2% increase from 2022.[KR1]

Despite gains being made the gender pay gap persists with female nonprofit Executive Directors earning 92 cents to every dollar earned by their male counterparts. NH fares better than the national average, especially when it comes to larger, better funded nonprofits, with[KR2]  female leaders earning roughly 77 cents to every dollar of their male counterparts, according to the 24th edition of the Nonprofit Compensation Report by Candid.

The report also highlights that wages have fallen below the living wage as estimated by the MIT Living Wage Calculator. In New Hampshire, ten of the reported job categories have an average wage below the living wage for the state.

Kathleen Reardon, CEO of the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits, said, “Our annual  Report on Nonprofit Wages & Benefits is intended to support the work of nonprofit leaders who face the same challenges of attracting and retaining staff as the for-profit sector. One in seven New Hampshire workers are employed by nonprofits. This report is a valuable tool for understanding wages and benefits but it also highlights important trends and disparities within New Hampshire’s nonprofit sector.”

The report is the result of a survey conducted in collaboration with the UNH Survey Center, Maine Association of Nonprofits, and Common Good Vermont. More than 230 New Hampshire nonprofits participated in the survey between April and June 2024.
