GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Granite United Way (GUW) seeks enthusiastic college student to participate in a multi-functional professional development experience that will include customized professional training and access to high-level community partners. We are interested in hiring one part-time intern to work with Granite United Way staff and community leaders to lend their time and expertise to organizing volunteer opportunities, recruiting volunteers to fill those opportunities, engaging youth in giving back to their community, and coordinating recognition opportunities and activities as part of Volunteer Appreciation Week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned):
- Supporting the Vice President, Corporate Engagement with planning, conducting, and evaluating volunteer engagement opportunities with Granite United Way community and corporate partners, including the planning and coordination of Day of Caring, Youth Day of Caring, CCSNH Day of Service, and Volunteer Appreciation Week activities.
- Utilizing GUW’s Volunteer Engagement Portal and Andar database to accurately track all volunteer engagements.
- Serve as a member of the GUW Volunteer Engagement team, helping to develop strategies to reach annual volunteer engagement goals, plan Volunteer Appreciation Week and GUW’s annual Day of Caring.
- Providing weekly updates and reports to Senior Director, Corporate Engagement
- Performing administrative tasks, such as: writing thank-you notes, mailings, compiling materials, emailing, copying, data-entry, and account tracking.
- Representing GUW as a business professional and serving as a resource to community members.
- Assist in special projects as needed.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
The Volunteer Engagement Intern will receive training in the following professional areas:
- Management – setting goals and priorities, managing time, organizing accounts, using resources, problem solving, and motivating fundraising volunteers.
- Community Engagement – Connecting with community partners to identify and define their needs and create a plan to help meet those needs through volunteer engagement opportunities.
- Corporate Engagement – Collaborating with corporate partners to identify their priorities in community support and connecting them with volunteer opportunities that match those priorities.
- Volunteer Management – Recruiting, training and supervising of volunteers to successfully complete volunteer opportunities.
- Community Dynamics – Understanding the health and human service issues of the community and United Way’s role in finding solutions to establish and maintain a healthy community.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrollment in a 4-year degree program • Experience in volunteerism or community engagement, a plus • Highly organized and detail-oriented • Excellent communications skills (both oral and written) • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office and basic databases • Ability to work well under pressure and capable to managing several tasks and projects simultaneously • Ability to maintain a professional manner through effective interpersonal skills within a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. • Must have reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the state of New Hampshire.
