We are dedicated to addressing public health through violence prevention and improving the well-being of children and families. Preventing abuse and providing support for those impacted by domestic and sexual violence can lead to healthier and more secure children and adults. Through a 24-hour client service support program and a Safe Kids Strong Teens K-12 Prevention education program, this organization provides services to individuals and families throughout Rockingham and Strafford Counties.

HAVEN Violence Prevention Educator (School-Year or Year-Round)

 

DesCRIPTION

HAVEN is dedicated to eliminating domestic and sexual violence through education, support and social change. Our mission is to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking, and to support and empower all women, men, non-binary and transgender adults, youth and families to heal from abuse and rebuild their lives. 

 

As a HAVEN violence prevention educator you will be presenting our Safe Kids Strong Teens programs in classrooms 4 to 5 days a week.  Our interactive workshops use puppeteering, large and small group activities, multi-media presentations and classroom discussion.  HAVEN educators use knowledge of the cultural and social causes of sexual and domestic violence to lead prevention efforts in schools in Rockingham and Strafford County. In the classroom, HAVEN educators teach children help-seeking skills, change knowledge and attitudes about violence, and encourage pro-social behaviors. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a member of a two-person team you will co-present violence prevention programs with a focus on middle and high school
  • Travel daily to schools throughout Rockingham and Strafford Counties in New Hampshire
  • Memorize and present information for multiple workshops
  • Utilize appropriate classroom management strategies
  • Prepare and distribute educational materials
  • Train and supervise education volunteers and interns in the classroom
  • Develop and maintain working relationships in local schools
  • Communicate with schools to determine specific needs/concerns and follow-up with school personnel as needed after classroom presentations
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of all schools/students we serve
  • Provide educational programs and trainings to parents, professionals, community members, and local agencies as needed
  • Present and table on behalf of the agency at outreach and fundraising events as needed
  • Assist in special projects and assignments as required for the effective operation of the agency
  • Meet and collaborate with other members of the Education team and coalition educators statewide
  • Assist with our Pathways & Camp Hope programs 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or related comparable work experience

REQUIRED SKILLS: Experience working with children/teens. Effective public speaking. Experience facilitating discussion with both small and large groups. Excellent oral communication skills.  Ability to memorize material.

HELPFUL SKILLS: Curriculum/program development experience. Teaching/puppeteer/performance background.  Knowledge related to issues of sexual, domestic, teen dating, and gender-based violence, particularly as they affect young people. Understanding of child growth and development.  Familiarity with best practices related to prevention education.

Requires a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable personal transportation for travel to schools throughout Rockingham and Strafford Counties.

 

STATUS OF POSITION 

HOURS PER WEEK:   40 hours 

Salaried Non-exempt – Benefits Eligible

REPORTS TO:  Education Director
