Established in 1992, NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire’s mission:  enhances people’s lives and the community environment by providing access to quality housing services, revitalizing neighborhoods and supporting opportunities for personal empowerment.  Our major areas of operation are HOMEteam and Neighborhood Development.  Within HOMEteam our counselors help underserved individuals and families learn the critical components of home ownership, including the financial responsibilities and how home ownership can provide meaningful opportunity to change economic viability.  Our Neighborhood Development programs include Real Estate Development, Tenant Services, and Community Building and Engagement.  NeighborWorks develops affordable housing for sale or rent for low and moderate income individuals and families with a particular focus on neighborhood revitalization.  NeighborWorks resident services involve our tenants and other community residents in the civic life of the community and provide a variety of enrichment services.

About the Job

Description

The Tenant Services Manager is responsible for the design and implementation of tenant empowerment strategies to meet the ever-changing needs and interests of the NeighborWorks® Southern New Hampshire tenant community. This includes but is not limited to coordinating community-building projects and providing technical assistance and support to tenants in order to develop their leadership skills, address quality of life issues and increase participation within their communities.  The Tenant Services Manager is responsible for the supervision of the Tenant Services staff team and for managing the day-to-day operations of the program. 

Tenant Services Responsibilities:

Liaison between Tenant Services Coordinators and ownership/management.

Oversee Tenant Services staff in their daily and weekly service coordinating responsibilities.

Work with Tenant Services Coordinators in a supervisory role to ensure that individual and team goals are being established and met.

Build and sustain community partnerships among NWSNH tenants, government officials, social service agencies, business owners, and other community stakeholders.

Track tenant and resident involvement and implement on-going success measurement tools.

Oversee and maintain database of tenant population and track tenant employment (as well as other areas of interest that may be trackable).

Coordinate and facilitate one-on-one and group sessions to enhance resident leadership skills, facilitate group problem solving, plan community-building projects, build relationships, assess community concerns or interest and/or strategize an organizing campaign as needed.  

Provide technical assistance to tenants and residents which includes but is not limited to, training in a one-on-one and/or group setting, planning and preparing appropriate materials, follow-up contact, facilitating informal/formal trainings, etc.

Conduct a variety of outreach methods to meet the goals of the program: create and distribute fliers either door-to-door, posting in community, mailings, newsletters, phone calls, write press releases for community calendars, make presentations during community meetings, utilize social media, etc. 

Ensure the flow of information and communication between NWSNH, tenants, property managers, neighborhood residents, and other community stakeholders. Visibility and accessibility is a priority.

Maintaining the importance of resident involvement, diplomacy, patience, and flexibility are essential.

Attend community and city meetings as needed.

Assume Additional Responsibilities as Requested

EDUCATION:

Bachelor Degree preferred, with 1-3 years’ experience in a community service field professionally or as a volunteer.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Supervision experience required, preferably with 3+ years of experience. 
  2. Group facilitation and/or training skills.       
  3. A successful candidate will possess good verbal and written communication, time management, interpersonal, computer and analytical skills. 
  4. Must be able to work successfully with people with diverse backgrounds, comfortable walking in targeted neighborhoods, and work independently as well as in a team.
  5. Ability to recruit and manage volunteers.
  6. Demonstrate a commitment to building social capital and possess a functional understanding of the basic principles of community building are required. 
  7. Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  8. Valid NH driver’s license required and use of personal vehicle.
  9. Ability to be in continual motion for long periods of time by standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, pushing and pulling as well as using repetitive motion of wrist, elbow and shoulder.
  10. Ability to lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs.
  11. Spanish Speaking Preferred
