RESPONSIBILITIES: Granite United Way (GUW) has a long history of prioritizing early childhood throughout New Hampshire. The Senior Director, Early Childhood Initiatives will lead these statewide efforts, developing and implementing local, regional, and statewide strategies to improve community conditions for the state’s youngest children and families. In addition, the Senior Director, Early Childhood Initiatives will oversee the operations of Whole Village Family Resource Center, home of approximately 16 separate social service providers that offer co-located wrap around support to families and individuals. The Senior Director, Early Childhood Initiatives will further align early childhood efforts with the family resource center network.
Work schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours, Monday through Friday with home office located in Plymouth. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, with the possibility of some early morning, evening, and weekend work. Must have reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the state of New Hampshire as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the operations of Whole Village Family Resource Center, including: supervision of staff, contracts, budgets, and programming
- Cultivate strong relationships with Family Resource Center network and NH Children’s Trust to stay informed, ensure Whole Village aligns with best practices, and for possible replication
- Advise GUW leadership on early childhood opportunities and initiatives
- Organize, facilitate, and convene internal and external (local, regional, and statewide) early childhood stakeholders
- Monitor, inform, collaborate, and mobilize local, regional, or state level policy advocacy and awareness opportunities
- Work collaboratively with GUW colleagues in donor and volunteer engagement to bring awareness and resources to the issues of early childhood and family strength/supports
- Create and carefully manage budgets
- Develop organizational processes to align early childhood focus within GUW
- Create and/or strengthen relationships with local, regional, and statewide leaders, including state officials, funders/donors, business officials, and families
- Work collaboratively to secure funding for Whole Village and early childhood initiatives
- Create internal systems within early childhood team to improve communication, alignment with the strategic plan, and efficiencies
- Attend regional and statewide meetings as a representative of GUW and/or Whole Village
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven ability and experience leading, coordinating and facilitating multi-organization initiatives with diverse external stakeholders and supervising internal teams
- Creative problem solver that can respond to opportunities and emerging needs
- Adapt at seeing bigger picture and connecting people to achieve greater success
- Strong content knowledge and expertise of early childhood and family systems, current research, and best practices/models
- Ability to identify gaps in systems and services and identify appropriate opportunities for GUW involvement
- Proven project management and organizational skills
- Ability to set and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills required: including listening, written and oral communication skills, facilitation, and presentation
- Commitment to excellence and the mission of Granite United Way
- Ability to represent GUW at social, civic and business events, some of which are outside of general business hours
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Possess strong leadership, negotiation, communication, coaching, and problem solving skills
- Organized, creative, highly analytical with excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team
- Strong planning skills and the ability to think strategically
- Excellent written and oral communication skills that is effective with a broad diversity of audiences
ENVIRONMENT:
The venue of this position is a general office environment that is clean, well-lighted, environmentally comfortable, free of fumes or airborne particles, and only minimally exposes employees to office solvents limited to those relative to copier equipment.
This position requires the ability to:
- Minimal requirement to reach at or above shoulder level; occasional reaching below shoulder level required
- Hand manipulation - equipment and controls, frequent; grasping and handling, occasional
- Ability to travel throughout the territory required
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include night and weekends
- Ability to tolerate prolonged sitting and/or standing and to lift up to approximately 50 pounds to waist high level whenever necessary.
- Mobility includes regular sitting, some standing and walking.
