Description

TITLE: FACILITIES ASSISTANT   

LOCATION: Primary location at McLane Center in Concord with secondary location at Massabesic Center in Auburn (usually once a week, but may vary) 

COMPENSATION: $16-$17 an hour, commensurate with experience. This position also includes vacation time, sick time, paid holidays, an NH Audubon Annual Membership, Nature Store discounts, and access to Pro Deals.    

HOURS: Monday-Friday, 4+ hours, mornings. Additional hours may be required as necessary. 

SCHEDULE: 21-28 hours per week, part-time, non-exempt (hourly paid) support staff position.  Schedule may vary according to needs.  

FUNCTION: This position will support the mission of New Hampshire Audubon: to protect New Hampshire’s natural environment for wildlife and for people, by providing custodial and maintenance support for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of the McLane Center and Massabesic Center and assisting with event and function room set ups and breakdowns. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES: 

Maintain and follow weekly custodial schedule including, but not limited to:  

  • Vacuum and dust common area and offices  
  • Clean, disinfect, and mop multiple kitchen areas, including appliances, such as refrigerators, microwaves, and dishwashers.  
  • Clean, disinfect, and mop multiple restroom areas  
  • Stock paper products and soap in restrooms on a regular basis 
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and bathroom products.  
  • Clean windows, doors, countertops, brochure racks, and other fixtures in public areas 
  • Consolidate and remove trash and recyclables  
  • Tend to the composting toilets 

Assist with any additional ground maintenance including, but not limited to: 

  • Leaf removal 
  • Sweep paths around buildings 
  • Some snow removal/salting and sanding 
  • Litter removal from building perimeter and parking lot 
  • Power washing, when needed 

Assist with event and function room set ups and breakdowns according to weekly schedules including, but not limited to: 

  • Set up and break down tables and chairs 
  • Ensure customer equipment needs are provided 
  • Wash tables and chairs after events 
  • Vacuum function rooms 
  • Remove trash and recyclables 
  • Clean kitchen between rentals 
  • Make sure bathrooms are stocked with paper and soap products 

Communicate cleaning and maintenance needs and issues to supervisors in a detailed and organized fashion. 

Assist in any building emergencies or scheduled maintenance projects. 

Perform minor maintenance repairs, such as hanging items on walls, replacing lightbulbs, investigating maintenance requests from staff, etc. 

Open, close, and secure buildings as needed.  

Demonstrate a commitment to environmental ethics and practices.  

Maintain a friendly demeanor when interacting with staff or members of the public.  

Perform other duties as assigned. 

 
LEADERSHIP: Reports to the Maintenance Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education: High School graduate or GED required. One to three years custodial, groundskeeping, and/or building maintenance experience preferred with demonstrated ability to make independent and coordinated decisions.   
 
Skills, Traits, and Characteristics Necessary for Success: Requires exceptional interpersonal skills, attention to detail, good problem-solving skills, solid communication skills, and a high degree of organization. Must have a positive attitude, ability to work independently, and a professional and courteous manner. Must have basic computer skills including familiarity with email and Microsoft Office products. 
 
Physical Demands: To perform the essential functions of the position, the following applies: requires standing, stretching, bending, walking, lifting and transporting a minimum of 50 pounds.  Must be able to climb stairs, be physically and mentally capable of performing multiple tasks under heavy pressure, and function in a fast-paced environment.
