North Country Education Services is a nonprofit organization based in Gorham, New Hampshire that provides a range of services, programs, and supports to public schools throughout northern New Hampshire. Most of NCES ' school-based employees are in the special education field.

About Us: NCES provides essential services to K-12 public schools, enhancing educational outcomes, and supporting student success. NCES employs special education direct related service providers, provides a variety of professional development opportunities, and collaborates with schools and other organizations on efforts that benefit the educational community in northern NH. NCES also serves as the fiscal sponsor for mission-aligned organizations serving the region. The organization’s annual budget averages between $1 to $1.5 million with approximately an additional one million dollars administered for fiscally sponsored clients.
Position Summary: The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall strategic, operational, and financial management of the organization. This role requires a dynamic leader with a passion for education and a proven track record in nonprofit management. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and community stakeholders to advance the mission and goals of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategy: Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the organization’s mission and goals. Articulate the mission, vision, and strategic direction.
- Grant Writing: Develop, write, and submit grant proposals to secure funding from various sources, including government agencies, foundations, and private organizations.
- Program Development & Management: Assess district and fiscal client needs to develop and deploy revenue generating programs and services. Ensure the delivery of high-quality programs and services to K-12 public schools. Evaluate program effectiveness and implement improvements as needed.
- Financial Management: Work with the Director of Finance & Operations to manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial stability and sustainability.
- Operational Management: Manage day-to-day operations, including program implementation, staff supervision, facilities management, and ensuring operational efficiency.
- Human Resources: Manage staff recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention. Ensure a positive and productive work environment. Oversee HR policies and handle compliance issues.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirements and manage the risks to the organization.
- Engagement & Public Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with school districts, community partners, relevant state and national entities, and other stakeholders. Represent the organization at public events, in the media, and in the educational community.
- Board Relations: Work closely with the Board of Directors to support governance functions. Provide regular updates on organizational activities and financial status.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Education, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of senior management experience in a nonprofit organization or education sector (some of both preferred).
- Proven track record in grant writing or resource development.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate staff and stakeholders.
- Commitment to the mission and core values of NCES.
Compensation:
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience, up to $110,000 annually.
- Benefits package includes health insurance, participation in the NH Retirement System, and paid time off.
