About the Organization

Manchester Community Music School serves over 1,500 individuals each year through a wide range of high quality music programs including early childhood classes, private lessons, chamber groups, the largest youth ensemble program north of Boston, summer community band, summer camps, the most comprehensive Suzuki program in the state, an extensive outreach program, and a high quality, well-established music therapy program. Our students and clients range in age from 6 months old to 80+ years young and attend the school from 60 New Hampshire communities. MCMS serves the wider Manchester area through our extensive outreach programming, working to keep music at the center for New Hampshire's education and enrichment programs for every child, youth and adult. Community partnerships are an important part of Music School programming as they enable us to bring music education opportunities and music therapy services directly to those who can benefit most, but who otherwise might not have access. Core to our mission, the Music School is committed to ensuring that anyone wishing to study music or benefit from music therapy services can regardless of their financial situation. As such, MCMS awards more than $100,000 in financial assistance each year.

Job Title: Director of Development 

Location: Manchester Community Music School, Manchester, NH 

Position Type: Part-Time (25 –35 hours/week) ONSITE  

Compensation: $35,000 - $45,000 

Job Description: 

The Manchester Community Music School (MCMS) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Director of Development to lead our fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This part-time position at 25 hours per week offers a unique opportunity for the right candidate to make a significant impact on our community-focused organization. The Director of Development will be responsible for donor and sponsor acquisition, fundraising event planning, and developing strategic initiatives to advance the mission of MCMS.  

 Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase donor engagement and retention, excluding grant writing. 

  • Oversee outsourced grant writing, maintaining organizations image and story. 

  • Work with the Executive Director to cultivate relationships with new and existing donors, including individual and corporate supporters. 

  • Coordinate fundraising campaigns and initiatives, assessing their effectiveness and adapting strategies as needed. 

  • Prepare and deliver presentations and reports on development activities to the Board of Directors and executive management. 

  • Manage the development budget responsibly to ensure efficient use of funds. 

  • Plan and execute fundraising events and promotional activities to increase funding and awareness. 

  • Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements associated with fundraising activities. 

 

The Director of Development will report to and work closely with the Executive Director. 

Skills and Knowledge 
 

  • Excellent personal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Customer service, communication and recordkeeping experience 
  • Able to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines; 
  • Solid organizational, time management and project management skills  
  • Initiative and collaborative skills, this is a team minded organization 
  • Foster and promote business relationships and partnering within the community 
  • Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds 
  • Establish rapport and build on relationships to promote mission of MCMS 
  • Good public speaking skills required

Education:  

Bachelor's (preferred) in nonprofit administration, business administration, communications or a similar field 
 
Experience:  

 Development/Fundraising: 3 years (Preferred) 

  • Fundraising or non-profit experience 
  • Previous management experience a plus 
  • Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and securing major gifts 
  • Proven experience in team communication and interaction
