About the Organization

For 32 years, NH Outright  has served, supported, and advocatesd for LGBTQ+ youth and their families across New Hampshire, and southern Maine. Among its many activities, NHO offers weekly groups for LGBTQ+ youth of many ages, groups for parents and caregivers, regular events and social activities, and a mentorship program in collaboration with Big Brothers, Big Sisters. In addition, NHO provides culturally responsive training for community organizations, and more. The organization also hosts Portsmouth Pride, the longest-running pride celebration in New Hampshire.

Our Mission: To serve, support, and advocate for LGBTQ+ youth throughout New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Outright is in an exciting period of growth, and we are seeking a Director of Development who can spearhead a fundraising strategy that will support our organizational and programmatic evolution. Must be a self-starter capable of implementing as well as completing work with minimal supervision. You are joining a growing organization with a strong set of relationships with local foundations, and a dedicated pool of donors. You will have the support of the Executive Director, and our Development and Communications Associate who handles the day-to-day work of gift processing, donor acknowledgement, and more.

You are: a detail-oriented, skilled communicator with a strong track record of running a strategic fundraising program (ideally for a growing organization). Your friends would describe you as a self-starter, collaborative, and able to work well both on your own, and with others. You are excited to join our organization at this important juncture.

The role:

Strategic Leadership (50%)

  • Create and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan that supports the vision of the organization strategically integrating multiple development revenue streams
  • Develop, implement, and steward a major donor program.
  • Oversee foundation strategy and implementation, including partnering with the Executive Director on grant writing and foundation relationships.
  • Provide fundraising leadership to the Board of Directors, including attending board meetings, and/or Development Committee meetings as needed.


Fundraising (25%)

  • Cultivate and solicit an expansion of our donor base, and foundation relationships.
  • Serve as the lead for Portsmouth Pride sponsorships, and fundraisers.
  • Oversee all fundraising-related event planning and execution with the support of applicable staff.
  • Supervise staff in maintaining donor database, donor acknowledgement processes, and event support.
     

Administration (25%)

  • Manage our annual appeal, including the follow-up, acknowledgement, and stewardship processes.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, and applicable staff on projects and administrative work as needed.
  • Regular supervision of applicable staff.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Experience in fundraising, with proven ability to create, manage, and lead a strategic fundraising program.
  • Track record of securing major gifts, and stewarding individuals, corporate, and foundation donors. Ideally, at least 2-3 years of experience preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong written and grant program direction.
  • A skilled communicator who enjoys connecting with others, and building and maintaining relationships.
  • Collaboration, creativity, and self-motivation. You take the initiative and work with colleagues to ensure team goals are achieved.
  • Passion for the Mission of NH Outright.
  • Familiarity with Little Green Light, and Google Suite
     

The Director of Development position is hybrid; significant work can be done remotely, with an expectation of regular in-person meeting attendance at the Center and in the community as needed.
