TITLE: Controller - Finance Office

FLSA: Exempt

SECRETARIAT: Temporalities

STATUS: Full-time

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:

All employees of the Diocesan Administration assist the Bishop of Manchester in serving the parishes, schools, and institutions of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire.

This position is accountable to the Secretary for Temporalities.

 

RESPONSIBILITES:

This director level position is responsible (with the Diocesan Budget Committee) for the formulation of the annual budget recommendations for the Diocesan administration, and budget oversight when approved by the Bishop, and serves to encourage, promote, support, and strengthen the goals and objectives of the Secretariat for Temporalities. This position is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of day-to-day functions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Organizes and coordinates the financial operation of the Diocese to control receipts and expenditures of funds and ensure effective cash management
  2. Prepare, administer, supervise and review budget process for both operating and capital budgets
  3. Monitor and report on debt covenants from an external bond issuance.
  4. Review, streamline, computerize and maintain internal control procedures for various financial record keeping systems to assure accuracy of all financial files, records and procedures
  5. Prepare and review individual and consolidated financial statements and various computerized financial analyses
  6. Assist in administration and implementation of salary and benefit programs for the diocese in terms of financial and accounting responsibilities
  7. Assist in the administration of the Diocese Risk Management Program working with insurance partners on renewals, billing, reports and claims administration.
  8. Plans and coordinates annual financial audits by independent auditors
  9. Consult with Cabinet Secretaries and department directors to assure effective utilization of financial and budget reports; coordinate special studies and/or custom reports required to support decisions by Cabinet Secretaries and/or the Diocesan Finance Council
  10. Supervise, evaluate, discipline and provide developmental opportunities for the finance department's support staff
  11. Approve purchase of office supplies
  12. Administer payroll processing for the central office, clergy and retired priests working together with Director of Human Resources
  13. Complete projects or assignments as directed by and in support of the Secretary for Temporalities

Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Education: Master's degree in accounting and/or CPA desired; bachelor's degree in accounting required

Experience: Minimum of 10 years' experience in accounting, finance or budget administration

 

Skills:

  • Expert level skills in the use of personal computers, including Microsoft products such as Word and Excel, other database and Internet programs.
  • Experience with accounting and payroll software. Preferred experience with Blackbaud and/or Questica.
  • Must have strong organizational, administrative, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use office equipment such as: typewriters, computers, calculators, copiers, fax machines, etc.
  • Must possess a valid New Hampshire driver's license

 

This position interacts with Catholic faithful and clergy on a regular basis. Respect for the Roman Catholic Church is required for this position.
