Certified Recovery Support Worker Job Description

An NRLR recovery support worker provides in-person and telephone support for those who walk into NRLR or The Doorway at Concord Hospital-Laconia or are referred by the local counseling center, police department, fire department, or other community service providers. 

Recovery support participant assistance responsibilities include planning short-, medium-, and long-term goals and establishing practical plans for achievement – Recovery Wellness Plans. The coach serves as an advocate for participants and a link to community-based services, resources, and the local recovery community by helping participants navigate the healthcare and social service systems. The coach participates in outreach and community education to establish NRLR as a visible, respected presence in the community. The coach must have the ability to maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries with staff and participants.

  • The recovery support worker may provide offender re-entry support for individuals in the Correctional Opportunity for Recovery and Education (CORE) program at the Belknap County Department of Corrections. 
  • The recovery support worker may provide 24/7 on-call assistance to the Concord Hospital – Laconia and Concord Hospital - Franklin Emergency Departments to assist after an overdose or with any other patient identified as struggling with substance use.
  • The recovery support worker may participate in street outreach to people experiencing homelessness/housing instability.
  • The recovery support worker may participate in other programming offered by NRLR.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certified Recovery Support Worker license from the State of NH, or in the process of becoming certified having at minimum completed the required courses: 
    • 5-day CCAR or Art & Science of Peer Assisted Recovery
    • 2-day Ethics
    • 6-hrs HIV
    • 6-hrs Suicide Prevention
    • 3-hrs Co-Occurring Behavioral Health and SUD
  • Understanding of SUD gained through lived experience with one’s own addiction, SUD of a family member or significant relationship, or through other avenues of personal experience
  • Able to explain recovery skills and principles to others
  • Willingness to share one’s own experiences with others when indicated
  • Understanding of ethical implications to the staff/participant relationship and adherence to 42 CFR Part 2 
  • Highly organized with the ability to keep accurate notes and records
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Core values consistent with a participant and family-centered approach to care
  • Computer skills are necessary for the utilization of platforms such as Zoho Mail, Google Calendar, Recovery Link, Unite Us, QuickBooks Time, MedTrainer, etc.

DUTIES:

  • Provide care management-related functions such as linking participants to community-based services and coordinating their access to those services.  
  • Increase continuity of care by managing relationships with tertiary care providers, transitions-in-care, and referrals.
  • Provide supportive services during times of participant crisis/relapse.
  • Provide phone support to participants of the agency.    
  • Assist participants in developing their own recovery wellness plan.
  • Teach recovery information and recovery skills.
  • Model effective and appropriate coping and self-help recovery skills.
  • Assist participants in understanding recovery capital and work with them to build a recovery capital plan for improving connectedness to the community, physical health, emotional health, spiritual health, living accommodations, employment, education, and daily living.
  • Conduct interim services groups for individuals on the agency wait list or awaiting services at a higher level of care.
  • Provide information and assistance to participants about developing their treatment plans with their counselors, crisis plans for relapse prevention, problem-solving, AA/NA, SMART Recovery, and other community peer support meetings.
  • Create ongoing processes for participants and family/caregiver(s) to determine and request the level of care coordination support they desire at any given point in time.
  • Complete continuous recovery monitoring interviews with participants who have left treatment at the agency. 
  • Encourage communication with Doorway at Concord Hospital - Laconia and NRLR leads on policy and/or procedural issues between agencies that impede smooth transfers of care or continuity of care.
  • Naloxone distribution and coordination with towns throughout the service area.
  • Coordination of available community services throughout the service area.
  • Work under the supervision of an MLADC.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of NRLR or Director of The Doorway at Concord Hospital - Laconia.
  • Additional Compass House Duties
  • Assisting the Horizons case manager with checking guests in / moving guests out of the house.
  • Orientation to expectations and house rules.
  • Oversight of house rules.
  • Conduct weekly House Meetings.
  • Referral to job skills training and education and oversight of participation in such services in coordination with Horizons as part of the recovery wellness plan.
