About the Organization

Since 2001, the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Association is a NonProfit Organization that has been committed to managing the charitable donations intended to support the NH State Veterans Cemetery. We are     committed to community outreach and expanding the public knowledge of the value of veterans. We work in collaboration with the Department of Military & Veterans Service and the Cemetery Director to consider requests   to purchase items like monuments, memorials, decorations, furniture, vehicles, equipment, landscaping materials and other needed items that cannot be provided by the State.

It's an exciting time to join the NH Veterans Cemetery Association as it’s first administrative assistant. Since its inception, the association has functioned as a 100% volunteer managed organization. As the association has expanded its operations, to include the development and management of the Veterans Heritage Learning Center, the creation of a strategic plan, and addition of an advisory board, the need for a highly skilled administrative assistant has become apparent. The person who fills this position will be an integral part of a team that is proud of our past and excited about our future. Join us on what will be an exciting and gratifying journey.   

 

Reports To: President of the NHVCA Board of Directors   

 The New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Association is a voluntary non-profit organization which performs the following to enhance the mission of the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery (NHSVC) located in Boscawen, New Hampshire:  

  1. Partners with the NHSVC Director and Staff to support operations and improvements.  
  2. Enhances public awareness and appreciation of the value of veterans and their service by maintaining the Veterans Heritage Learning Center, providing publications, hosting ceremonial events and conducting other community outreach functions.  
  3. Accepts, manages, and expends funds and resources to support the Cemetery.  

POSITION SUMMARY  

  The Administrative Assistant works collaboratively with the Board of Directors to support the mission of NHVCA and represent its values when interacting with volunteers and the community. This position is a key link in supporting the efficient and smooth functioning of the organization.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  Program Management:  

  • Work with NHVCA President to develop meeting agendas and attend quarterly NHVCA Board meetings taking minutes for distribution afterwards  
  • Manage all correspondence  
  • Draft volunteer newsletters   

  Human Resources:  

  • Work with NHVCA President to recruit, orient, retain directors  
  • Attend continuing education programs and any NHVCA activities that may need support  

  Financial Resources:  

  • Support development and execution of Annual Budget and Strategic Plan  
  • Distribute information on donations opportunities   
  • Provide appropriate financial stewardship for the organization operating in a manner consistent with the approved budget by recording new pledges, processing bills, depositing receipts, reconciling accounts   

Public Relations:   

  • Manage social media  
  • Distribute informational brochures to visitors upon request   
  • Develop and implement fundraising plans, and regularly monitor progress against goals  
  • Maintain strong relationships with various funding sources, including grantors, corporations, and private donors  
  • Actively develop new sources of funding, expanding the revenue base  
  • Draft periodic acknowledge updates to donors  
  • Identify and write applicable grants applications, when needed   

EXPERIENCE

   Proficient in Office 365®, Google Workspace® and familiarity with databases, social media, and basic website management, as well as comfortable with other basic operational functions in a work environment.  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or a related field preferred  
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an administrative support role, preferred  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment  
  • Experience in non-profit sector is a plus  
  • Willing to undergo a background check.   
  • Some knowledge of military history is preferred.   
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.

 Job Type: Part time with the potential to become full time - 25 hours per week  

Pay: $22.00 per hour
