Plan NH

Plan NH is a membership organization of planning, design and development (and related) professionals.  Founded in 1989, we raise awareness of the impact of the built environment (what we build, where we build and how) on the health and vitality of communities here in the Granite State.  Our "audiences" are our members and others in the professions, as well as citizens and community leaders who care about where they live, work, and/or play.

Our work includes sharing ideas and trends about community design (from sidewalks to parks to conservation spaces) and its role in a healthy and successful future, thinking about where we live, and how we get about.  Throughout our work are fundamental notions of "sustainable" practices and equity.  Community engagement is critical.

Our community design charrette program brings volunteer members together for two days to address a challenge a town has requested assistance for - often ideas for revitalizing a downtown or neighborhood.  As of June 2015, we have completed 59 charrettes in 55 communities around the state (since 1996) and are preparing for two or three more.  Recommendations have included river walks, parks, moving buildings and more.  Our work will, when and where appropriate, now incorporate considerations to support citizens who wish to stay in their hometowns as they grow older. We may also include creative thinking about stimulating economic activity.
