Great Mountain Forest - I was asked to advise Great Mountain Forest, a non-profit that is a 501(c) 3 private operating foundation. The goal of the consultancy was to assess GMF’s current situation and make short-term recommendations for actions that would increase the organization’s economic sustainability.  Also, I was asked to look at their youth conservation programs and share observations regarding long term planning for every facet of GMF.

To complete this work, the staff sent GMF’s printed material; mailings, maps, and fund requests. I assessed their website and historical documents, conducted focused discussions and facilitated a SWOT exercise with staff members and a board member.

I prepared & provided an in-depth and thorough report to the GMF staff including new and innovative suggestions for raising awareness of Great Mountain Forest. Also, I suggested new and forward-thinking ways of getting their message out to GMF donors.  The document outlined short-term practical actions that can be implemented quickly and critical strategic planning observations for GMF Board and staff.

Meeting Waters YMCA (MWYMCA) - As a volunteer board member, I utilized skills in organizational assessment and development, generative leadership, and community-building to help lead MWYMCA through a period of sustainable, community-responsive growth.

I was also asked to play a leadership role in Board Development and Strategic Planning. As a non-Board volunteer, I have continued to guide Meeting Waters YMCA and help shape its future. As a member of MWYMCA's most-recent Strategic Planning Task-Force, I facilitated discussions focused on MWYMCA's community needs assessment phase as well as the process of turning internal and external data and input into a strong and actionable strategic plan.

Meeting Waters YMCA has asked that I stay involved in its deliberative process as MWYMCA considers a strategic opportunity to increase service to thousands more people in its Y service area of southeastern VT and southwestern NH.
