About the Job

Description

Leadership New Hampshire (LNH) is seeking its next Executive Director to guide the organization in fulfilling its mission, including leadership for its strategic direction, ongoing program development, and fundraising and partnership development. LNH has built a vast network and strong reputation across the state of New Hampshire, offering a solid foundation to build upon. With the upcoming retirement of its long-term Executive Director and the completion of its current strategic plan, this is an exciting time for the organization to welcome a new leader who will bring creativity and innovation to identifying how the organization can continue to evolve in response to changing civic and social dynamics and community needs across the state. This role offers a unique opportunity to support New Hampshire’s growing and evolving network of civic-minded leaders, cultivating connections with individuals in and across all of the state’s regions and sectors.

The Executive Director will focus their time in the following areas:

Organizational Strategy and Management

  • In partnership with LNH the Board of Trustees and staff, guide the creation of LNH’s next strategic plan and manage its annual review and revision
  • Provide leadership to the Associate Director and Program Manager, providing motivation and clarity of purpose and ensuring goals, work plans, and results are aligned to LNH’s overall strategic direction and high standards of quality
  • Lead Board of Trustees engagement, reporting, and recruitment, and staff and partner with Board Committees to advance the Board’s work
  • Lead the creation and implementation of the annual budget
  • Oversee all business operations, collaborating with the Associate Director on human resources, technology, and financial management

External Relationship-Building

  • Serve as a champion and ambassador for LNH, cultivating relationships with current and potential partners, funders, and program participants across New Hampshire’s regions, sectors, and communities
  • Identify and engage a wide variety of community leaders and constituents for involvement in LNH program delivery as potential presenters
  • Lead fundraising activities for LNH, including identifying and establishing relationships with potential and current individual donors, corporate sponsors, and institutional grantors, with a focus on building and implementing strategies to increase private fundraising
  • In collaboration with LNH staff, foster alumni engagement – connecting alumni to the organization and to each other – through ongoing relationship-building activities

Programmatic Excellence

  • Lead the delivery of LNH’s core program curriculum; guide ongoing review and revision in order to ensure it reflects evolving conditions within the state and adherence to best practices in adult and experiential education
  • Recruit and organize speakers and act as convener and lead facilitator for LNH program activities
  • Evaluate opportunities to expand on LNH’s core programming, exploring options for unique and innovative programs that uphold LNH principles and quality while responding to the needs of new or different audiences

Candidate Profile

As the incoming Executive Director, you will demonstrate many – though perhaps not all – of the following competencies, skills, and characteristics:

  • You have demonstrated success in organizational management and leadership, with past experience playing a range of roles from strategist to implementer in small organizations. You are experienced with managing budgets and teams. Past experience in nonprofit management is considered a benefit, though not a required experience.
  • You demonstrate familiarity with current issues facing New Hampshire or, if newer to the state, you exhibit the curiosity and relationship-building skills necessary to build this understanding.
  • You share LNH’s commitment to providing programming that is inclusive, nonpartisan, and fosters connections across diverse groups and communities, and you are able to serve as a uniting presence in groups with differing points of view.
  • You are a skilled relationship-builder, with demonstrated success engaging and inspiring support from a wide variety of constituencies and are experienced in building relationships with new audiences. You have a track record of success in fundraising or business development, including experience growing or diversifying an organization’s funding base.
  • You are a strategic thinker, able to guide a team from vision to results.
  • You approach your work with creativity and an innovative spirit, identifying opportunities to iterate and evolve programming.
  • You believe in the value of leadership development programs and bring experience designing and implementing effective programs for adults, with excellent facilitation and convening skills.
