New Hampshire Women's Bar Association Elects New President

Devine Millimet attorney Kristin Mendoza has been elected president of the New Hampshire Women's Bar Association, or NHWBA. Founded in May of 1998, the NHWBA helps promote and support the advancements and interests of women within the legal community. Attorney Mendoza has previously served on the NHWBA board as a representative of Hillsborough County South. Her two-year term will begin August 1, 2008.

 Moore Center Services Receives $10,000 Grant from Bank of America
Bank of America donated $10,000 to Moore Center, specifically targeting Moore Options for Seniors. This program is designed to give older non-disabled adults the opportunity to remain in home-based care. The funds will be used to pay for 26 Moore Options for Seniors staff members to receive training from The College of Direct Support, the cutting-edge online training curriculum for Direct Support Professionals.

 $43,000 in Grants Awarded by NH Electric Co-op
The New Hampshire Electric Co-op Foundation awarded grants totaling $43,000 that will support the work of 12 non-profit organizations throughout NHEC service territory.

 Manchester City Library Foundation Names New Officers
Manchester, NH - The Manchester City Library Foundation, a private nonprofit supporting the Manchester City Library recently annound that board of directors have elected new officers:

 Manchester Historic Association Announces New Board of Trustees Members
Manchester, NH - Attorneys Jim Merrill and Jason E. Cole of the law firm of Devine Millimet have been named to the Board of Trustees of the Manchester Historic Association.  Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association Receives $1 Million Gift
Concord, NH - Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association has received a $1 million  gift from Eugene (Gene) A. and Anne L. Slusser of Hopkinton, according to Mary B. DeVeau, President/CEO. The gift will enable Concord Regional VNA to buy equipment and furnishings for its planned leased building on Pillsbury Street in Concord, to develop a scholarship program, and to eventually purchase the new building.

  Nominations Being Accepted for the Sixth Annual Spirit of New Hampshire Awards
The Board of Directors of Volunteer NH announces that nominations are now being accepted for the sixth annual Spirit of New Hampshire Awards which recognize outstanding contributions to volunteerism.  Volunteer Service Awards will acknowledge exemplary volunteer contributions in the categories of:  youth, adult, senior, family, group, and national service member.   Women's Fund of NH Announces 2008 Spring Grants

  Endowment for Health Awards Nearly $2.9 Million To Statewide Health Projects
Concord, NH – The Endowment for Health, New Hampshire’s largest health foundation, recently awarded nearly $2.9 million in grants. Awards were made to 30 organizations for the resources necessary to forward health-related policies and projects in New Hampshire. Many of these projects have statewide reach while others address need in targeted geographic areas of the state.

  NECU Pledges $10 Million Toward Student Loan Funding in Support of the NHHEAF
Due to a drop in private sector funding, NH Higher Education Assistance Foundation, along with other nonprofit agencies, have not been able to provide all of the necessary funds to lend to students. "As a supporter of community education initiatives, Northeast Credit Union feels it's important to help students pursue their dreams of higher education," said Peter Kavalauskas, President and CEO of Northeast Credit Union. "In support of NHHEAF, NECU is proud to pledge this student loan money for Stafford Loans and the PLUS Loan for Parents. Our hope is that NECU's funding will help students get the loans they need in time for the upcoming school year and beyond."  NECU is currently sending out letters and calling student members to let them know that the Credit Union has provided funding for their student loans.   Nominations for 40 Under Forty 2009
The New Hampshire Union Leader and UnionLeader.com will again profile 40 young New Hampshire leaders in a special Monday's Business section in early 2009. It's not too early to recommend a worthwhile candidate for next year's class. Nominees must not turn 40 before Feb. 1, 2009, and must have lived in the state for at least three years. Candidates may nominate themselves.

  Concord TV Announces Election of New Board Chair
Peter Thompson of Concord has been elected Chair of the Concord Community TV Board of Directors .  Thompson is an active volunteer in the community, also serving on the Government Affairs Committee of the Concord Chamber of Commerce and the Finance Committee of St. Johns Parish.Concord Community TV, a non-profit organization that is located in Concord High School,  manages Concord's Public Channel 22, Government Channel 17 and Education Channel 6. Its mission is to provide residents and organizations of Concord and surrounding towns the opportunity, facilities and access to cable television for the purpose of producing and cablecasting public interest, cultural, educational and government programs over the local cable television lines.

 Former NHCN Board Members Honored
At its annual meeting this summer, NHCN recognized visionary former board members for their contributions to building and supporting the organization. Recognized were Donald Shumway, President & CEO, Crotched Mountain Foundation; Liz Hager, Executive Director, United Way of Merrimack County, and Alan Reed-Erickson, Executive Director, Monarch school of New England.   Girl Scout Camp Celebrates 100 Years
Thetford, VT – Camp Farnsworth, founded as Camp Hanoum, is celebrating its 100th summer of all-girl camping with a reunion weekend August 15-17. The Girl Scout camp will be featured on WMUR-TV’s award-winning program ‘New Hampshire Chronicle’ on Thursday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m. Generations of women have enjoyed the camp over the decades. In 1959 it became a Girl Scout camp and was named Camp Farnsworth, in memory of its founders, Dr. Charles and Charlotte Farnsworth. Today hundreds of girls continue to enjoy horseback riding, swimming and boating in Lake Abenaki, hiking, the woodshop, writing and performing plays, doing pottery in the Mud Hut, outdoor cooking, singing camp songs and more.Girl Scouts of Swift Water Council serves 14,000 girls in New Hampshire and eastern Vermont, and is supported by 4,200 trained and dedicated volunteers.   Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua named 2008 Champion in Actions
Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV to provide $25,000 grant, PR and volunteer support

  Shari Landry Named New Hampshire Charitable Foundation's Vice President of Philanthropic Services
Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has hired Shari Landry of Concord as its new Vice President of Philanthropy. CATCH Neighborhood Housing is an award winning, community-based, non-profit organization offering a full spectrum of housing services to low- and moderate-income individuals and families in Merrimack County.

  New Hampshire Charitable Foundation Awards More Than $350,000
Hanover, NH – The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation announced grants of $354,925 from its Wellborn Ecology Fund to support environmental, ecology and place-based education programs in the Upper Valley.   The grant dollars will go to 14 projects run by local schools, agencies and community organizations within the Foundation’s Upper Valley Region, which serves 61 communities in NH and VT. Programs receiving support include summer nature camps, professional development opportunities for teachers, nature-center interpretive design and improved trails near schools.

  Star Island Corporation Receives $100,000 Grant

  NH Bar Foundation Awards $1.7 Million in Grants to 11 Organizations
"During this time of economic uncertainty, I am very pleased to announce that the New Hampshire Bar Foundation recently approved $1.7 million in grants in support of eleven nonprofit organizations,” announced David G.
