NH Boat Museum

Founded in 1992, the New Hampshire Boat Museum is a nonprofit educational organization that focuses on boating heritage and life on the lakes and rivers of New Hampshire.  It serves the local community and visitors by presenting exhibits, events, outreach programs, publications and hands-on activities. Its Museum, located on the former Allen A Resort property in Wolfeboro, NH, is open Memorial Day through Columbus Day.  For more information, visit www.nhbm.org.

Description:

The Front Desk staff is the primary interface with Museum visitors and members.  This position is highly visible to the public and sets the tone of hospitality for the Museum. This position greets visitors, collects admission fees, answers the telephone, oversees the day-to-day operation of the Gift Shop, prepares daily/weekly records/reports, provides information about the Museum and its activities to the public, and performs other duties as assigned. Good interpersonal skills, friendliness and a positive representation of the Museum are the highest priorities of this position. This position reports to and receives instruction from the Executive Director and works occasionally with the Volunteer Gift Shop Manager and some Committee Chairs. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.

Requirements:
  • Enthusiastic, cheerful and willing to learn.
  • Admissions or retail experience and/or computer skills to operate the computerized POS system.
  • Good with math and money counting.
  • Excellent communication skills to greet and converse with public and conduct tours if necessary.
  • Good professional telephone skills and ability to operate telephone system.
  • An interest in working with people and willing to become knowledgeable of exhibits and Museum activities.
  • Good inter-personal skills to work in a team environment.
  • Experience or education in history, boating, teaching or retail sales helpful.
  • An eye for merchandising displays for the Gift Shop helpful.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Represent the Museum to visitors.  Greet and welcome guests in friendly, respectful and hospitable manners.
  • Perform Opening and Closing Museum Procedures.
  • Process admission fees and Gift Shop sales, including data entry.
  • Answer telephone, direct calls and take complete and accurate messages.
  • Communicate information about NHBM, events, programs, etc. to the public.
  • Light housekeeping duties.
