The Executive Director of the Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association (MWVAA) is responsible for overseeing the day to day operation of the Mt. Washington Valley’s local arts organization.  The position reports to the Board of Trustees primarily through interaction with the board president and attendance at monthly meetings. The MWVAA Executive Director serves as the face of the MWVAA in the community, promoting its mission and being its representative to governmental, business, and other non-profit entities. 

Pay Range: $15-$20 per hour
Position Type: Part-Time (20 hrs/week) Contract Length 3 months (renewed quarterly)

Requirements:
  • 3-5 years experience working with cultural arts organizations, or related fields
  • Proven ability to successfully prepare grants and conduct fundraising activities
  • Proficient with computer programs: QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Constant Contact, and other office programs

Successful candidates must possess a vision and enthusiasm for promoting the visual arts, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage and oversee all of the MWVAA’s activities.

Responsibilities:

The Executive Director fulfills the duties of this position through the following responsibilities:
 

Budgets, Fundraising & Grants

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies for stewardship, cultivation and solicitation of current and potential donors from government, foundation, local businesses and private sources to sustain MWVAA’s short and long term operations
  • Identify, prepare, submit, and implement grants and complete reports from government, foundation and private sources
  • Personally solicit memberships and manage programs including timely invoicing for new and renewing members
  • Monitor income and expense reports related to annual goals and project funding
  • Manage monthly expenses and income through finance program such as QuickBooks
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of financial statements and the ability to prepare and implement an operating budget for the organization in co-operation with the Treasurer and Finance Committee
  • Coordinate and manage special events and capital campaigns as determined by the Board of Directors
    Marketing
  • Create membership communications and solicitation materials for use in marketing and outreach efforts by Executive Director and Board members
  • Create and distribute press releases and media marketing campaigns (print, radio, web, direct mail) to promote MWVAA events, fundraisers, and programs
  • Keep MWVAA website and social networking sites current with useful and informative updates for members and artists
  • Facilitate the publication of monthly e-newsletters to members updating them of the organization’s activities
    MWVAA Board Support
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees, as well as Programming and Finance Committee meetings and report relevant information
  • Prepare monthly reports, including membership, fundraising, and financials for Board review
  • Prepare Board orientation materials for new and prospective Board members
  • Implement the annual strategic plan to reflect MWVAA goals and objectives
  • Organize and present annual strategic planning session for Board and MWVAA members

Operations Support

  • Recruit, supervise and evaluate office personnel and volunteers
  • Oversee timely responses to all communications received through the MWVAA office
  • Properly maintain files, documents, financial, and historical records
