Development Director

Krempels Center

Krempels Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with acquired brain injury. In partnership with universities and community volunteers, Krempels Center offers programming that builds social capital, provides meaningful and productive experiences, and connects those impacted by brain injury to support and resources.

Krempels Center is a unique program for acquired brain injury survivors working on rebuilding their lives after injury.  Located at the beautiful Community Campus in Portsmouth, NH, Krempels Center is comprised of a strong team of professionals working closely with the University of New Hampshire and other colleges to help survivors post-injury address their challenges and have meaningful and productive experiences. The Center is a 20+ year organization with a budget of $600,000, and a mission-centric board of directors and talented staff. Krempels Center offers competitive salary and benefits.

Position Overview:

In partnership with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Staff, the Development Director will implement and build upon a successful development program to fund Krempels Center as it continues to grow.  (full time 37.5 hours/week)

  • Fundraising and Cultivation Events
  • Public Relations and Communications
  • Community Grants

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and oversee development plan, including metrics for performance, which meets the organization’s annual revenue goals.
  • Responsible for the implementation and growth of a mission-based, donor-centric Major Gifts program including prospect research and identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.  
  • Implement and build upon donor acquisition and recognition strategies.
  • Help ensure directors, committees, staff, and volunteers are actively engaged, trained, and supported in their roles in the development program.
  • Maintain and strategically build community partnerships in the for-profit and nonprofit sector to expand organizational impact and opportunity as well as grow resources.
  • Responsible for the development of promotional communication strategies, materials, and use of social media channels that effectively communicate Krempels Center’s mission and values as well as grow resources.
  • Develop planned giving program.
  • Ensure successful fundraising events, including stewarding key partnerships, and maximizing corporate sponsorship and volunteerism.
  • Oversee the donor database and report generation needed to support and document donor stewardship and effective fundraising.
  • Seek grant opportunities, and collaborate with Executive Director on grant writing and reporting.
  • Comply with relevant fiscal policies/procedures, and collaborate on the development of gift acceptance, planned giving, and other relevant policy/procedures for consideration.
  • Provide effective support, feedback, guidance, and day-to-day supervision of Special Events Manager and Operations and Development Associate, and conducts annual evaluation of Special Events Manager.
  • Relate congenially and professionally with all key constituents of the organization, including clients and their family members; staff; board and other organizational volunteers; donors; referral sources; and organizational partners.

Education & Related Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience designing and managing development programs.

  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Stellar interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proven ability in donor solicitation, acquisition and stewardship.
  • Belief in the mission and ability to engage with the Krempels Center community.
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
  • Stellar ability to initiate and prioritize.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Aptitude in MS office programs, database software, and social networking tools.
  • Flexibility to work some weekends and evenings.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:

  • Routine office environment.
  • Some nights / weekend work required.
  • Must have own transportation, a valid driver’s license, and adequate insurance.
