New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Assistant Controller.

The Assistant Controller is a key member of the finance team and works closely with the Controller to meet the fiscal needs of a medium size nonprofit organization.  This is a hands-on job, responsible for all aspects of payroll, receivables and payables; HR support and personnel duties; and monthly close process.  The Assistant Controller will provide regular ad hoc analysis and reconciliations; and assist with the preparation of the annual budget and annual independent audit. This position requires good communication, a strong knowledge of GAAP, advanced Excel and analytical skills, inquisitiveness, and an ability to be a team player.    

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 5-7 years accounting experience
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Blackbaud Financial Edge experience preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Strong time management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in priorities and tasks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal, written and communication skills
Responsibilities:

Duties Summary:

  • Code and process daily cash receipts
  • Code and process weekly accounts payable
  • Monitoring and tracking of accounts receivable
  • Bi-weekly payroll processing
  • Reconciliation of bank statements
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
  • Preparation and posting of monthly journal entries and month end close
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Assist with grant reporting requirements and cost allocation reporting
  • Administration, tracking and reporting of employee benefits
  • Onboarding of new employees
  • Provide support to employees via guidance and interpretation of HR policies, processes and procedures
  • Assist in the development and administration of personnel policies and procedures Cash flow management
  • Other duties as assigned by the Controller
