Southern New Hampshire Services, Inc. (SNHS) is a private non-profit corporation chartered in the State of New Hampshire, May 21, 1965 to serve as the Community Action Agency for Hillsborough County in compliance with the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.  In July, 2011, Rockingham Community Action (RCA), the Community Action Agency serving Rockingham County, was merged with Southern New Hampshire Services.  As a result of this merger SNHS now provides services to residents of the 66 towns and 2 cities in Hillsborough and Rockingham counties.

Helping People.  Changing Lives.  The mission of SNHS is to provide activities designed to assist low-income participants, including the elderly poor, to secure and retain meaningful employment, attain an adequate education, and make better use of available income; to ameliorate the causes of poverty within the community; to meet urgent and immediate individual and family needs, including health, nutrition, housing and employment related assistance; and to address the problems and barriers which block the achievement of self-sufficiency.

As a Community Action Agency, it is SNHS’ purpose to provide social service programs and advocacy activities for the economically disadvantaged, elderly, youth and other specialized populations in the organization’s service area.  SNHS operates 69 programs, contracting with the Federal, State and local governments as well as other social service agencies and private entities. The programs offered include Child Care, Early Head Start, Head Start, Women Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), Energy and Utility Assistance, Weatherization, Asset Development, Supportive Housing for the Homeless, Homelessness Outreach and Intervention programs, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), several programs supporting initiatives within the refugee and immigrant communities, as well as several initiatives under the Workforce Investment Act.

The Assistant Children's Program Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations of the after school and summer recreation programs offered by SNHS' Western Hillsborough County Family Services Program.  The Assistant Children's Program Coordinator will be responsible for implementing all programming and maintaining appropriate participant behavior at the program site for which they are scheduled at for the day.  Program services are offered at Riverview and Pine View Village housing sites in Peterborough.  Program activities include crafts, recreational activities, and assistance with homework and school projects.

  • Previous experience working with children required.
  • Ability to participate in vigorous outdoor recreational activities year round is required.
  • Ability swim is required.
  • Ability to assist with academic projects preferred.
  • First aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • 12 credits in approved education courses preferred.
  • Experience in special education, recreation, or other related field preferred.
  • Planning and facilitating daily craft and recreation projects.
  • Assisting program participants with daily school assignments.
  • Supervising and participating in outdoor activities.
  • Monitoring participatns' behavior to ensure a safe and enriching environment is maintained.
  • Supervising any other children's program staff on site, providing direction and leadership.
  • Managing staff and scheduling.
  • Ensuring that all participants exhibit appropriate, respectful, and compliant behavior.
  • Assisting in daily cleaning of program space.
  • Supervising the safe and constructive use of all program supplies.
  • Monitoring and reporting maintenance issues at program sites.
  • Reporting suspected abuse or neglect of participants by guardians or others.
  • Present a professional and positive image as a representative of SNHS.
  • Having adequate knowledge of SNHS programs and gathering sufficient intake information to make referrals to other SNHS programs which could be beneficial to the individual and his/her family.
  • Maintain professionbal boundaries with all current, past and prospective clients, and maintain confidentiality of clients and staff, in accordance with SNHS policies and procedures.
  • Abide by all SNHS Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
