Our Structure

Membership is open to all girls 5-17 who subscribe to the Girl Scout Promise and Law. We are part of a worldwide family of 10 million girls and adults in 145 countries. Girl Scouting was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low.

  • Adult members volunteer as troop leaders, community administrators, organizers, public relations coordinators, adult learning facilitators, board members, and specialists in child development, adult and outdoor education, and administration.

  • Our annual budget of just over $5 million is supported by gifts from individuals and corporations, grants from foundations, investements, program fees, and the annual Girl Scout Cookie sale.


Description
The Community Engagment Specialist is responsible for implementing the recruitment strategies within their assigned area to include hosting Discover Girl Scout events for potential girl and adult members.  He or she will work to increase awareness and participation in Girl Scouts through a variety of in person meetings, presentations, and networking opportunities with community organizations, corporations, schools, educators, faith-based intuitions, and other community constituents within an assigned geographic area or throughout all regions of the Council as assigned. The Community Engagment Specialist is responsible for securing girl, adult volunteer and community partnerships through community cultivation and for generating the maximum number of qualified membership leads possible in the assigned region.  

Requirements:

· Associates degree or 2 years’ experience in outside sales or recruiting preferred.

· Willingness to work nights and weekends with 80% of time outside the office travelling to meetings with potential members and community partners.

· Excellent technical computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and customer relationship management systems or other data tracking systems.

· Ability to lift 35 lbs.

· Reliable Transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of vehicle insurance

· Supports the mission of the Girl Scouts; previous Girls Scout participation a plus.

· Willing to become a registered Girl Scout member.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists in achieving the council’s corporate goals for girl and adult membership through implementing membership strategies in assigned areas.
  • Supports implementation of membership recruiting marketing strategies outlined in the council’s strategic plan, annual business plan and/or other council goals primarily through Discover Girl Scouts (DGS) events, lead generation events, and follow-up phone calls with prospective members.
  • Follows up on new leads and referrals resulting from field activity in a timely fashion by scheduling DGS events to convert leads to members.
  • Works with the Assistant Director to determine and develop innovative techniques to ensure the effective delivery of recruitment strategies.
  • Promotes and assists with Council wide programs, activities, public relations, fund development endeavors, reregistration events, and partnership building.
  • Collaborates with other departments when necessary to provide proper messaging and appropriate material. 
  • Ensures Leads are entered into Salesforce.
  • Prepares reports as required.
  • Works with a cross functional team to develop innovative techniques to ensure ongoing effective delivery of the recruitment strategies.
  • Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of pluralism and diversity to all.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
