Volunteer Coordinator

Pope Memorial SPCA of Concord-Merrimack County

The Pope Memorial SPCA is a 501(c) 3 animal welfare organization located in Concord, NH and founded in 1910 by a small group of citizens inspired by their love of animals.  Just two years ago, after more than a century of devotion to our mission of providing a safe haven for abused and neglected animals and fostering the animal-human bond, we completed our first capital campaign and opened a 9000 s.f., state-of-the-art facility at 94 Silk Farm Road in Concord.

The Volunteer Coordinator oversees our volunteers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions to ensure volunteers are staffed to support the various areas of operations, to include guest services, animal care and enrichment, humane education, special events, and development.

  • Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
  • Recruit, interview and place applicants for volunteer work
  • Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training
  • Schedule all volunteer activity
  • Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
  • Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers and act as a single point of contact for communications
  • Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest


  • Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage
  • Record keeping skills
  • Organization and planning skills


  • Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations
  • Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job
  • Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions


  • Hours are generally Tuesday through Saturday. Must be available for special events and training.
