Head Start Teachers' Assistant

The teachers' assistant is responsible for working collaboratively with the teacher in creating a supportive and enriching learning environment for preschool children and for planning, designing and implementing a comprehensive, developmentally-appropriate curriculum that provides hands-on learning opportunities for all children. Under the supervision of the teacher, the teachers' assistant will model the appropriate interventions and interactions with children, share the responsibilities of completing the required paperwork, work collaboratively with all other SCS staff, and participate in all required meetings and trainings. The teachers' assistant will assist in the implementation of an individualized approach when supervising and guiding behaviors of children using the CSEFEL Framework and strategies. The teachers' assistant helps the teacher in the collection and entry of data on each child three times a year in the five established domain areas. This position requires conducting at least two home visits and three parent/teacher conferences for each child to foster effective home/school communication and build partnerships with parents and the community.

Requirements:

Head Start is looking for teachers who have positive attitudes and love working with children and families. Familiarity with NAEYC best practices and the Head Start Standards and Early Learning Framework is ideal. Southwestern Community Services Head Start requires our teaching teams to work respectfully and creatively with the other staff in the center. If you are team player and are a great teacher, please apply. Associate Degree is ECE is required. This position is full time, 35 hours per week and follows the Head Start school year calendar.

Responsibilities:

The teachers' assistant shares in the responsibility for the overall care of the classroom and its contents, and conducts and maintains inventories of supplies and equipment in the classroom. The teachers' assistant will be familiar with the Performance Standards, NAEYC requirements, and updating the classroom portfolio.
