Residential Assistant House Manager

Spaulding Youth Center, located on a spacious campus in Northfield, NH, is a nonprofit dedicated to improving and enriching the lives of emotionally and/or intellectually challenged children, youth and their families. The Residential House Manager is responsible for the day to day operations for one of the campus’s residential houses, the Residential House Manager will provide training and direct supervision to staff, and will participate in student management, programming; and crisis management


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services or related field.  Five (5) years’ experience in human services in a residential setting and supervisory experience preferred.   In lieu of a BS/BA Degree, the following criteria shall serve as basis for waiver: Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field.  Seven (7) years related experience; in-service and additional training; job performance; clear and validated evidence of professional expertise and competent decision-making.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  This position requires critical thinking and impeccable organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented and have exceptional interpersonal skills in order to manage a diverse group of staff and students.  Ability to maintain a respectful environment for staffing and students and to promote positive interaction with other departments. Must be able to provide consistent feedback to staff in order to ensure appropriate programming and needs for the students and staff. Successful completion of PCM training – must obtain certification as a Practitioner 2 for continued employment; 1st Aid, CPR, PBIS, medication distribution and the training sequence required by Spaulding Academy for this position.  Crisis management skills, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to teach and train new staff on online duties, willing to engage in open communication with direct supervisors and co-coworkers, role model behavior and work practice for other staff.  


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Listed below are the essential functions of this position. Successful job applicants will be able to perform these essential functions with or without a requested reasonable accommodation.

1. Implements behavioral/cognitive program through shift hours. 
2. Ensures residential staff members meet training requirements.
3. Provides supervisory support for all residential units.
4. Provides weekly supervision meetings with individual staff in cottage
5. Screen and obtain, if necessary, all one to one tracking records for any students needing 1:1 services
6. Ensures appropriate staff/student ratio coverage for all residential shifts to include overnight and on-calls.
7. Develops and participates in on-call rotation.
8. Supervises and develops student schedules for cottage (student, kid groups, pull schedules).
9. Screens staff requests for sick, annual and holiday time.
10. Screens payroll for unit on a daily basis
11. Makes recommendation to Residential Director for residential budget development.
12. Screens expenditures for cottage with residential budget to be approved by the Program Director.
13. Meets with Program Specialist for weekly supervision.
14. Interviews and recommends individuals for hire for residential staff openings, as needed.
15. Ensures that all respective cottage staff receive appropriate safety training, that all staff are familiar with the Center’s Safety Policy and adhere to all provisions of the written safety program; and responsible for the prompt correction or removal of all identified safety hazards in the cottage.
16. Facilitates regular residential meetings.
17. Attends and participates in 40 hours of training sessions per year
18. Supervises the purchase of all material needs for unit.
19. Screens weekly and monthly progress notes for all cases.
20. Screens psychiatric feedback for respective unit.
21. Participates in the dispensing of medication to students when warranted.
22. Performs weekly cottage inspections.
23. Works on-line day/evening shifts, as needed.
24. Works two off-line (on-campus) supervisory shifts – on campus liaison with other departments, i.e., medical emergencies, etc.
25. Provides exceptional customer service to students, their families and outside stakeholders.
26. Monitors, screens and responds to all pertinent communication regarding case assignments in a timely fashion.
27. Is familiar with Spaulding’s Safety Program and adheres to all provisions of the written safety plan.  Respectful of equipment and/or working environment; promotes an environment free from conduct that violates the rights of others.
28. Other duties as assigned by Program Specialist.
