Executive Director

The Friendly Kitchen

The Friendly Kitchen seeks to provide a meal for the hungry in a warm and caring non-discriminating environment through the coordination of community volunteer resources.


We are looking for an experienced Executive Director to oversee all operations, functions and activities. You will be the face of the organization, responsible for giving the proper strategic direction and implementing a high quality vision.

An excellent executive director is an influential manager with ability to lead and motivate. They have great communication skills and take a holistic approach in managing the organization’s operations. The goal is to manage and lead the organization towards the realization of its mission.

Requirements:
  • Proven experience as executive director or in other managerial position
  • Experience in developing strategies and plans
  • Ability to apply successful fundraising and networking techniques
  • Strong understanding of finance and measures of performance
  • In depth knowledge of corporate governance principles and managerial best practices
  • An analytical mind capable for “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve problems
  • Outstanding organization and leadership abilities
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills
Responsibilities:
  1. Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board.
  2. Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work.
  3. Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  4. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
  5. In coordination with the Board of Directors, assure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
  6. Oversee general operation of the kitchen and dining room with the support of the Kitchen Manager.
  7. Must be available for occasional on-call situations arising outside of regular operating hours.

Communications:

  1. See that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.
  2. Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals by using various sources, including but not limited to, social media.
  3. Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
  4. Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
  5. Ability to work and communicate with a diverse population.

Staff and Volunteer Management:

  1. Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
  2. Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
  3. Encourage staff and volunteer development and education, and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.
  4. Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.

Finance:

  1. Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices including day-to-day cash management and monthly reconciliations.
  2. Work with the staff, Finance Committee, and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
  3. Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work. Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support the organization’s mission (i.e. completing grant applications).
  4. Jointly, with the president and secretary of the board of directors, conduct official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.
