Donor Relations Manager

The Donor Relations Manager will be responsible for facilitating the organization’s positive and strong relationship with its current base of private donors, and for building relationships with prospective donors.  The Donor Relations Manager’s primary activities will focus on stewardship activities that increase the connection between Family Services and the individuals and organizations that invest in its services.  This position will require significant time outside the office meeting with donors and attending events.


The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about Family Services mission and sharing the story of the organization’s impact with a variety of individuals and organizations.  Candidates must have demonstrated experience building relationships with donors and/or customers and a high degree of professionalism and flexibility.

  • Minimum of 3 years fundraising experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or commensurate experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, mature interpersonal style, ability to multitask and manage time appropriately.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to: work collaboratively and support volunteer involvement, build relationships with volunteers and donors, make small group and individual presentations.
  • Willingness to work in varying conditions that may include weekends and/or evening events.
  • Maintain strong relationships between the organization and its current donor base through regular personal communication and cultivation.
  • Personally solicit portfolio of renewing and prospective donors, including individuals and businesses for annual giving, event sponsorship, and auction donations.
  • Conduct solicitation and cultivation visits (face to face and phone) with an assigned portfolio of current donors and prospects.
  • Identify major gifts prospects and create and implement plans for cultivation.
  • Identify and respond to opportunities and establish new relationships with corporations, community groups and individuals that will generate monetary and non-monetary (in-kind) support for the agency.
  • Facilitate the donor relations activities of the CEO, COO and Board members.
  • Represent Family Service at community events and networking opportunities (e.g., Chamber mixers). 
  • Support a group of volunteer solicitors.  Provide them with logistical and administrative support to facilitate their cultivation and solicitation activities and ensure coordination with overall efforts.
  • Implement activities of the Leadership Giving Society.
