Animal Rescue League of NH

The Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire is a non-profit organization, incorporated in 1904, with the mission to protect, rescue & adopt animals to the public. The ARL receives no federal, state or United Way funds for support and is solely dependent upon fundraising events, private donations, and program fees to support its cause. The organization is based in Bedford, New Hampshire and helps countless animals and people each year through its programs. 

The ARL is seeking a full-time, well-seasoned, senior executive to assume the position of President & CEO. We are actively seeking out a person who enjoys working as a collaborative leader with a passion for animal welfare. The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing all organizational activities and be expected to make decisions as appropriate to ensure implementation of the strategic vision as approved by the Board of Directors. 

Moreover, the President & CEO will oversee fundraising, development plans and marketing strategies to assure adequate funding for the shelter and its programs. Additionally, the President & CEO shall develop and implement budgets, policies and procedures, along with creative strategies, to deliver responsible animal care and effective, courteous animal services. As with most successful organizations, the evaluation and management of staff competencies and performance is an important component of this position, and the successful applicant should be well versed and able to handle with ease Human Resource needs, issues, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

The President & CEO should enjoy engagements with people, may it be with staff, the Board of Directors or with the general public. The successful applicant will promote the organization to the public and serve as facility spokesperson in the community. Experience and expertise in integration, collaboration and transition management is critically important.

  • Be readily able to demonstrate prior experience in organizational change and transition management.
  • Be readily able to demonstrate prior experience in establishing and maintaining a respected leadership role in an organization. 
  • Be readily able to demonstrate prior experience with interpersonal relationship skills, to include building alliances among staff, community organizations and state agencies and establishing and maintaining relationships with patrons, foundations and local businesses.
  • Be readily able to demonstrate prior supervisory experience, which should include a mastery understanding of principles of Human Resource Management (HRM), and ability to skillfully mediate disputes, conflicts and grievances. 
  • Be readily able to demonstrate prior experience in successful grant management, which should include seeking out grant opportunities and effectively managing grant funding.
  • Be readily able to demonstrate sound budgeting and financial knowledge, to include basic investment procedures, fiscal and budgetary practices, basic accounting procedures and financial statement management.
  • Be readily able to demonstrate prior experience with program management processes and procedures, to include expertise in cost and schedule management.

Other Skills:

  • Must be computer savvy with experience in MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • software (required) 
  • Experience with data base management (desired)
  • Knowledge of social media strategy (required)


  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA (preferred)
  • Program Management certification (desired)
