The mission of the PLUS Company, an acronym for People Learning Useful Skills, is to Empower Individuals and Maximize Independence. We serve over 400 individuals and families with offices in Nashua, New Hampshire and Lawrence and Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Our goal is to provide a supportive, innovative, and creative environment that assists individuals with disabilities to develop useful skills, increase self-reliance, and become vital, productive members of their communities.  What makes us unique is that our services allow individuals to explore Home and Life skills, along with Educational/Social and Work Skills all in ONE agency. Programs are created with the vision that all people with disabilities have the confidence, dignity, and skills needed to lead quality lives

Established in 1972 by the Nashua Association for Retarded Citizens, The PLUS Company was incorporated as a non-profit entity in 1978. In 1980, a State of New Hampshire court order mandated that residents of Laconia State School return to live in their communities. This increased the need for community-based services for people with developmental disabilities and resulted in the rapid growth of The PLUS Company. Several group homes were established in the Greater Nashua area, and an emphasis was placed on vocational training.


The primary responsibility of this position is to provide supported employment services to workers with disabilities in various work sites, assuring that all work is performed in accordance with employer business cultures and business needs; with concentration on acceptable workplace behaviors, work performance, and productivity. The goal is to develop and assist in maintaining excellent work and related social skills for individuals with disabilities with the ultimate goal of successful competitive employment outcomes and job retention.  This person works with a team of the PLUS Company Career and Business Services Department and other PLUS staff as needed, the employment site and its designated staff, parents/guardians, service coordinators and funding partners. 

This position is based in our Nashua facility. The Career Trainer must be available to work evenings and/or weekends when necessary. As a role model for the individual you will be working with, dependability, appropriate interaction with co-workers, and doing a job well are important.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year employment in human services and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, consumers, and other employees of the organization.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid driver’s license with good driving record and an insured vehicle are a requirement of this position.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds.  Employee may be expected to participate in the performance of SOLVE techniques, or other physical interventions designed to assist consumers.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Responsibilities:

• Performs task analysis at a wide variety of competitive job sites in the community
• Provides systematic instruction on site in the essential skills of the job and appropriate workplace behaviors to ensure understanding of the job and duties
• Attends job orientation with the individual, assists with onboarding activities, and clarifies information with the individual as necessary
• Identifies and implements job accommodations and modifications as needed
• Maintains relationship with employer to ensure employer satisfaction and to timely address issues and concerns
• Communicates regularly with all relevant parties regarding issues or concerns that surface
• Provides advocacy assistance in work related areas such as how to seek feedback, how to request help, and how to improve performance
• Provides education, training and support to co-workers and department supervisors and develops natural supports in the workplace
• Provides assessments by obtaining information from direct observation, co-worker input, and department supervisor input
• Develops and implements fade plans in keeping with the goal of fostering independence
• Timely completes monthly reports, assessment reports and other required documentation
